Going Beyond Travel, Inc. was established in 1995 by Pam and Monty Hunt. While we were attending a Special Olympics meet in 1994, we realized the lack of vacation opportunities available for people with cognitive challenges. In 1995, we planned four vacations and escorted a total of twenty-eight clients on weekend or five day vacations. In 2006, we planned twenty-four trips and had over four hundred clients go on vacations with us! Our business was started with very little capital. We rented 15-passenger vans when we escorted a trip. In 2003, we took cash out of the business to purchase a 25-passenger bus, so our clients could travel more comfortably and be together in one vehicle (as opposed to our often renting two vans to accommodate all of our clients). In 2006, we sold the bus to purchase one with a wheelchair lift so we could better accommodate people in wheelchairs and allow them to go on vacations. |
